Mid-South Construction, Inc. was founded in 1967 by Lee F. Powell and actually began as a construction/road-building firm in Hickory, KY-near Paducah, KY. The company became a "construction materials" supply firm under Joe A. Powell in the seventies and today's manager J. Lee Powell represents the 3rd generation of family ownership in the current sand, gravel, and limestone aggregates supplier.
The first "sand plant" that separated the rich, consistent deposit of red gravel in the 
Hickory area into asphalt sand and washed gravel products was updated into a modern sand and gravel operation in 1980 along with digital truck scales for the production of concrete sand, mortar sand, and some of our seven different sizes of washed gravel. Later, in the 1990s a second production site and loading facility was added in Lake City, KY near Grand Rivers adjacent to the Vulcan Materials "Reed" Quarry, and a small cone crusher was implemented at the Hickory site to offer white gravel and crushed rock products to the firm's product mix.
Finally, in the new millennium, a quarry was opened in Grand Rivers, KY on the Tennessee River and leased to a succession of operator's, but soon to be Vulcan Materials through acquisition and today's limestone products were added to the mix rounding out the "full array" of construction materials available from the primary site in Hickory, the secondary site in Lake City (Grand Rivers), or at the alternative location in Gleason, TN.
Today, Mid-South Construction continues to grow in sales revenue, product diversity, quality assurance, as well as outreach to the Southern Illinois, Western Kentucky, and Northwest Tennessee markets. Our fine line of construction materials are shipped continuously into both the commercial and residential applications including asphalt, ready mix concrete, concrete block, septic systems and landfills, site preparation, swimming pools and landscaping, exposed aggregate drives and sidewalks, pipe laying, playgrounds, and golf courses just to mention a few.
